Autumn/Winter 2014

We have had a much less frantic autumn/winter term this year. After spreading ourselves pretty thin in previous years we committed ourselves to one big Christmas concert this year. But, we also wanted to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the start of the 1st World War and so we incorporated that into the theme of the concert – so “Christmas in the Trenches” was born. So as well as all the usual Christmas favourites we were learning songs like “When This Lousy War is Over” and “Over There”, which was great as starting Christmas carols in September is a definite no-no. Oh and we sold out the concert, for the first time ever.

We all chose this years Serenade charity; which is The Peter Le Marchant Trust, a fantastic charity who do boating trips and holidays for disabled and seriously ill people. The local children’s pre-school was vandalised and we were also able to donate some money to them, to get their new bungalow back on track. And as we were doing a war themed concert we also raised some money for the Royal British Legion. We created a Serenade Christmas Tree for the Shepshed Christmas Tree Festival and this years we went for the theme of the Twelve Days of Christmas.group
