Welcome message from our Musical Director – Nicole Jordan
Welcome to our lovely choir of ladies who love to sing, raise money for charity and have lots of fun along the way. We sing a range of songs from musicals, films, pop and rock singers/bands and we perform in concerts a couple of times a year, along with singing in care homes and sometimes around our local pubs and at other local events.
We have Ness our amazing pianist playing for us every Monday at rehearsals and more recently we’ve started performing our main Summer concert with Ness and a live band of great musicians. If you love singing, laughter and friendship, then Serenade is the choir for you!
Who can join:
- Are you female? Were are an all women choir – sorry boys!
- Are you aged 16 years or over?
- Do you live in, or have links to Shepshed?
- Do you enjoy singing

Myth busting:
Do I have to be able to read music? Nope! Just a passion (even a small unkindled one) for singing.
Do I have to be able to sing? We believe everyone can sing – with a bit of practice, so if you’ve ever been told you can’t sing that is probably rubbish!
Do I have to perform? Nope! A lot of us love to perform and so we usually organise two main concerts a year, but there is no obligation to perform with us. We hope you will enjoy singing with us so much, that will follow.
How will I know what section to sit in? We are a SSA choir, which means Soprano 1 (the highest voices) Soprano 2 (slightly lower) and Alto (the lower female voices). You may have an idea where to start but in the first few weeks you may want to move around until you find where you belong. Or you can ask Nicole to get you to sing after a rehearsal and she will advise you. You are not fixed either, feel free to move as your voice changes/develops over time. Voices sometimes get lower as we age, or if illness affects the vocal chords.
Do I just turn up? You can, absolutely but it is better to join at the beginning of a performance term – either at the beginning of the year or after the school holidays – that way you aren’t as daunted when we are near perfect (we hope) and you are stuggling to keep up. If you are a chilled type though, and want to just come and see what we do, it will be fine to join whenever. If you come early on your first night we can make sure you have all the information you need and we’ll sit you with some of our friendly members and introduce you. We do like to be prepared too though, so if you feel like dropping us a line on Facebook or on email so we can roll out the red carpet, then please do.!
Do I have to pay for the first night? Nope! Your first night is free for you to see what we do and check this is right for you.
