Spring/Summer 2013

A very busy term working up to a performance at the Shepshed Show. Ably led this spring and summer by Nicole Jordan, while we auditioned for a permanent Musical Director.

We had a special session run by Steve Johnson on Natural Voice technique, which was really fascinating.

Then we had the auditions for the Musical Director, for which we had 4 fantastic candidates, seeing the different styles and song choices was very interesting. It was also a great opportunity to ask our ‘Serenadies’ about the direction of the choir to make sure our vision for the future was spot on. Plus we have our new Musical Director for the Autumn term – Tom

In March we celebrated our 1st birthday with a sing, a boogie and an amazing cake. It was hard to believe we had been going a year and was a great opportunity to have some fun with our friends.

We did find some time to practice new songs in time for the climax of this term, which was the first Shepshed Show. We were accompanied by the Loughborough Concert Band for some of our songs and our wonderful pianist Ness for the rest. An open air performance again and we sang our hearts out. The rain held off while we sang a successful set watched by the hordes who came to the show. Well done to the organisers, it was a triumph and we are already booked to perform at next year’s show!!

You would think that was enough but no, we secured a grant to get the website up and running from the Shepshed and Hathern forum – thank you guys! We also held our first annual general meeting in July, voting in three new members for the steering group and we had our summer social in August, just something to keep us going until the choir is back in September.
