Fundraising

The main aim of Serenade is for the ladies of the group to have FUN, FUN, FUN. But there is a more serious side.

As our name suggests we are a community choir and as such we try to live up to our name and give something back to the local community. That’s why you will see us singing at local events and performing at some of the local nursing homes.

We are a friendly bunch and all enjoy what we do immensely, so we’re keen to use our ‘talents’ to raise money for charity. This could be a local charity, or a larger, national charity which has been selected for whatever reason by a member of our group.

The 2018/19 fundraising season we have chosen the Admiral Nurses to benefit from our fundraising. Admiral Nurses are specialist dementia nurses who give expert practical, clinical and emotional support to families living with dementia.

Do join in our fundraising activities over the course of the next year to help us raise money for such an amazing and worthwhile charity.

2017 we voted for Shepshed Community Swimming Pool, who wanted funding for equipment to help keep the swimming pool in Shepshed a vital part of the community. Swimming has not been on the secondary National Curriculum for years and even primary schools, who used to have many pool bookings are now only required to offer a course of lessons to non-swimmers. The Pool Committee are investigating ways of keeping the pool open. Fundraising for capital items really helps. We managed to raise a whopping £3400!!!! Thank you to everyone who helped make this happen.

2016 we voted for The Shepshed Toy Library which is a fantastic resource for local parents and carers to hire children's toys. The Toy Library also tied on votes with STEPS, so we will had two wonderful local charities to raise for that year. STEPS is a charity we have raised money for before and is a charity that provides conductive education for children with motor disabilities. We managed to raise £1500 each!!!!! As well as that we had a surplus, which we donated £500 to ALL our previous charities - Peter Le Marchant Trust , Derbys., Leics. & Rutland Air Ambulance, Bloodwise previously  Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research, LOROS, The Shepshed Food Bank and The Shepshed Volunteer Centre. What a bumper year!!!!

2015 we voted to support The Shepshed Volunteer Centre which provides volunteer led services including social car scheme, gardening and befriending in the Shepshed community. Something we are all passionate about.

All activities and services are facilitated and supported by a paid worker, but rely on the hard work and commitment of the many volunteers who provide hours of valuable service. We were very proud to present a cheque for £2500.

2014 we supported the wonderful Peter Le Marchant Trust who provide day trips and holidays on waterways for disabled and seriously ill people. We were proud to present a cheque for £1370

2013 we were very proud to raise money for two charities the Derbys., Leics. & Rutland Air Ambulance and Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research. We had an amazing year and raised £1030 EACH!!!!!! Totalling £2060 - good going ladies and thank you to everyone who came to our events.

Our first year we raised £550 which we donated £250 to the Shepshed LOROS support group, £250 to STEPS and £50 to Embrace.
