Spring/Summer 2016

We welcomed back our lovely friend Nicole Jordan to the Musical Director position after Tom Stanyard had given us a great couple of years of technical excellence and led us to new heights. We were excited to get started on this years ambitious Summer Concert and really enjoy it. We chose the theme of “Singing Through the Decades” and had pieces from the 1910’s all the way through to the 2010’s. With more and more of us gaining confidence is solo or small groups we could...

Autumn/Winter 2015

For this year’s Christmas Concert we wanted to do something a little different and we were pretty bored of the usual Christmas songs and carols, so we decided to perform Christmas Number Ones from the last 60 years. There was a little bit of everything and so hopefully something for everyone from When a Child is Born to Bohemian Rhapsody. We voted for The Shepshed Volunteer Service to be our charity of the year, so hopefully we can do them proud this year with all our hard work and...

Spring/Summer 2015

A great term, which culminated in our Music and Memories Concert. We performed at two venues in June; One was at Thorpe Acre Church, which raised money for the church, and the second performance at Shepshed High School where we raised money for our charity of the year – The Peter Le Marchant Trust, who run boating holidays for sick and disabled people. The Music and Memories Concert was really special for us all as it took songs that were of special significance for us and shared this...

Autumn/Winter 2014

We have had a much less frantic autumn/winter term this year. After spreading ourselves pretty thin in previous years we committed ourselves to one big Christmas concert this year. But, we also wanted to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the start of the 1st World War and so we incorporated that into the theme of the concert – so “Christmas in the Trenches” was born. So as well as all the usual Christmas favourites we were learning songs like “When This Lousy War is...

Spring/Summer 2014

We certainly keep ourselves busy and this term was no exception. We challenged ourselves to do our very own spring concert and so we had to learn enough new material to do this, in a relatively short period of time; Lots of practising at home. We added some great new songs including the mammoth Les Miserables medley and as our ladies are growing in confidence we also got plenty of volunteers for solo or small group pieces. “Spring into Song” was an enormous success and we were very...

Autumn/Winter 2013

Wow we really packed in the activities in the Autumn/Winter term for Serenade. We started by welcoming our new Musical Director – Tom Stanyard. We then practiced hard for our second concert with the Loughborough Concert Band in October, which was a great success and got us off to a great start raising money for the two chosen charities for this year: Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research and the Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland Air Ambulance. We have given ourselves a really ambitious target...
